Between November 25 and 29, 2024, Wrocław University of Science and Technology once again hosted International Staff Training Week participants as part of the Erasmus+ Program. This year's edition saw the participation of 38 representatives from universities across 21 countries (including our partners from the Unite! network), hailing from Europe and even distant locations such as Bhutan and Bolivia. The event's central theme was the application of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in daily and professional life.
The formal opening ceremony was conducted by Professor Barbara Widera, PhD, DSc, Eng., Architect, Rector’s Plenipotentiary for Internationalization, along with representatives of the Center for International Relations at Wrocław Tech. The inaugural lecture, titled “Everyday AI: Professional and Life Skills for the Future,” was delivered by Dr. Yash Chawla from the Faculty of Management, who introduced participants to the practical uses of artificial intelligence.
Participants also had the chance to learn the basics of the Polish language through a short, interactive crash course led by Katarzyna Zatońska, MA, from the Foreign Language Center. This session was educational and a bonding experience, as attendees learned essential Polish phrases to use during their stay.
On the same day, the guests presented their home institutions, culminating in a tasting event where everyone could sample delicacies from various countries.
A key element of the program was a two-day series of practical workshops where participants explored various AI tools. The sessions were led by Dr. Yash Chawla, with support from a special guest, Nikola Kozujevic from Opinio AI in Brno. Attendees learned how to effectively integrate AI technologies into their daily work and life.
The guests also toured the Wrocław University of Science and Technology campus, including the state-of-the-art Electromagnetic Compatibility Laboratory, the Wrocław Networking and Supercomputing Center, and the modern Bibliotech facility.
The program was enriched by cultural events, which became an integral part of the gathering. A trip to Książ Castle, one of Poland’s most beautiful castles, a visit to the Gardens of Light, and an exploration of the Christmas Market in Wrocław’s Old Town allowed participants to experience the magic of Lower Silesia.
The final day of the program was dedicated to visits to various departments and units of Wrocław University of Science and Technology. These visits facilitated networking and the exchange of experiences during both formal and informal meetings. The event concluded with a certificate ceremony, where Anna Hejno, MA, Director of Center for International Relations, thanked everyone for their active participation.
