Workshops of the "Remote Labs for Ukraine" Project at Wrocław University of Science and Technology

On June 23–24, 2025, workshops for the international project “Remote Labs for Ukraine” took place at Wrocław University of Science and Technology. The project is a joint initiative between KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI), and Wrocław University of Science and Technology.
The aim of the project is to create a network of modern remote engineering laboratories that will support education and research—especially at Ukrainian universities affected by the consequences of war. The initiative is funded by the T.I.M.E. Association, a network of technical universities.
The project is led by KTH, with coordination by Dr. Marcin Korzeniowski and Dr. habil. Grzegorz Lesiuk, university professor at Wrocław University of Science and Technology, along with Dr. Anton Lavrinenkov from KPI.
“Our goal is to create innovative tools in the form of remote labs that support online teaching and international collaboration. This is not only a response to the needs of universities operating under crisis conditions, such as during wartime, but also an important opportunity to develop a shared educational base within the T.I.M.E. network,”
says Prof. Grzegorz Lesiuk from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Wrocław University of Science and Technology.
Remote labs are scalable, efficient, and resilient solutions that leverage modern digital technologies, enabling high-quality instruction—even when access to university infrastructure is limited.
The workshops gathered 20 researchers from Ukraine, Sweden, and Poland, representing institutions including:
- Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute
- Kyiv Academic University
- Lviv Polytechnic
- Ternopil Ivan Puluj National University
- Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas
- Khmelnytskyi National University
- National University of Water and Environmental Engineering, Rivne
- Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University
- Ushynsky University, Odessa
- KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden
Additionally, some participants from Ukrainian universities joined the workshops remotely.
“This project has great future potential, and the virtual component of the workshops broadens the scope of collaboration. The connections made may lead to joint research projects, COIL-based educational programs, and double-degree initiatives,”says Ewa Mroczek from the Center for National and International Relations at Wrocław University of Science and Technology, Coordinator of the T.I.M.E. Double Degree Program.
